Have You Ever Wondered…

  • Do you like to play Bingo?
  • Where did the term “Bingo” originate?
  • Can I create my own unique Bingo cards?

Do you know? Millions of people, both children and adults, play this entertaining game every day.

Indeed, we wager that the majority of ours have participated in bingo at least once. Bingo is a well-liked pastime, whether you play it to pass the time at school or with your grandma at the local bingo night at the community center.

There has been bingo for a very long time. In the early 1900s, it originally gained popularity in the US. But its origins may be found in Italy around 1530, when the “Lo Gioco del Lotto d’Italia” lottery first started.

Other nations began holding lotteries as a result of The Italian lottery spur. The playing cards used in many of these early lottery games had numbers written in numerous columns and rows. The lottery would be won by the first individual to fill out a full row after a caller randomly selected numbers from a bag.

Edwin S. Lowe, a toy salesman from New York, popularized bingo in its current form. In the late 1920s, Lowe saw a game called “beano” played at a carnival in Atlanta, Georgia. It was known as “beano” and resembled old lottery games because numbers were called, players marked their cards with dried beans.

When a player filled an entire row of numbers — horizontal, vertical or diagonal — he or she would shout “Beano!” and win a small prize. Lowe loved the game and introduced it to his friends, one of whom accidentally shouted “Bingo!” upon winning.

The name “Lowe’s Bingo” was given to the game at that moment, and it swiftly caught on across the nation. Soon, many groups became aware of the game’s potential for fundraising. Players paid a fee to participate in the bingo game, and a portion of the funds would be given out as prizes while the remainder was kept by the organizers.

Bingo is now played all over the world. Bingo is a well-liked game that millions of people love, and it can be played everywhere from tiny church basements to enormous halls that seat thousands. And compared to winning the lottery, your chances of winning are often far higher. The majority of bingo players enjoy the social side of playing a fun game with their friends, even if winning money is always pleasant.

Bingo comes in a variety of forms, from paper cards marked with ink daubers to rigid cardboard cards marked with plastic markers. The Internet even offers bingo games that you may play.
